Who Made Your Clothes: Meet Gede

Manufacturing Stories: Meet Gede

We think it is important to feature exactly who made the clothes you wear, so we all remember that everything we touch has a story and a beginning.  Here, we will feature a few of our slow fashion artisans in Bali in our ongoing series. First up, meet Gede!

Question: What is your occupation?
I own a small garment workshop, here in Bali. I specialize in pattern making, cutting, and sewing.

Question: How long have you been working in the industry?
Since 2005

Question: What do you enjoy about your job?
I like that it's challenging; it requires a lot of concentration and you must be precise. With my job, there are opportunities to grow. I like that I am able to offer work to my community.

Question: What do you do for fun when you’re not working?
I like to keep up with the news and keep up with what’s going on with the world.

Question: Where did you learn your skill set ?
I had a mentor to teach me patternmaking and my other skills. It was nice to have other pattern makers to help teach me. In the very beginning I was not very good, my patterns needed work. I practiced a lot to get better and became a great patternmaker.
