We are so excited to introduce you to another customer and one of our brand ambassadors, Susan. We're so excited to share her story and journey with sustainability with you.
Meet Susan,
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Susan and some of the things I enjoy are being outdoors like hiking, camping, gardening, tending to our chickens and chilling in a hammock. I love a good book and sitting on the porch looking out to the mountains with my Aussie named Oliver.
What inspired you to start blogging?
I’ve been passionate about clothes and shoes at a young age. I didn’t start taking photos and blogging until I was 17 years old then I got a website a few years later and started blogging more but I decided writing wasn’t really my thing so I’ve just started sharing more on Instagram.
You and your husband live in a tiny house, tell us more about the decision to transition to a tiny house and how you’re enjoying it.
Yes! We (my husband, father and I) had a discussion about the idea of the tiny house at the end of 2019. It was an idea that I brought up to my dad as an Airbnb business but he asked us if we’d move in instead. At the time we were still living in the city and started to outweigh the pros and cons. It was just such a good idea not to take the chance and move… of course the pandemic hit and we decided to move over here a little earlier than we wanted and the transition was a bit difficult because we moved when the shut down was announced.
Before living tiny my husband and I already lived in a small apartment about 500sq ft and we didn’t have a lot of stuff anyways so there wasn’t much to adjust to since we have been comfortable living tiny beforehand. We have been enjoying every minute of our space and it really has helped us live with less stuff.
How do you define sustainability? What do you look for in brands/ products when you’re shopping?
Sustainability to me is limiting your waste, and investing in brands that are giving back to the environment and people. I look for brands that are making those commitments and being honest about the impact they are making and the steps they’re taking to make those changes happen.
How did you get interested in sustainability and sustainable fashion?
When I lived in the downtown area in the city where I grew up this little store opened up where you can bring your own bottles to fill up with products like soap, laundry detergent, shampoo etc. and that’s when I really started investing in sustainable products and from there looking into the clothes I started wearing.
Has your view of sustainable fashion changed over the years?
Yes, At first I thought it was just about buying brands that are using better fabrics for our bodies and environment but it’s so much more than that.
What are some core/ timeless styles that you look for time and time again
Some timeless styles I look for are a great pair of denim, a comfortable button up, a slip dress, a midi dress, thick sweaters and a t-shirt.
What’s your favorite thing about fashion? Why is it a passion of yours?
Why is it a passion of yours? My favorite thing about fashion is how fun it can be. I love dressing up and putting on a cute top or dress makes me smile and I enjoy sharing about new brands that I find with my friends and family.
Anything else you would like to share?
I’m still working towards a sustainable lifestyle, it's not something that happens overnight, it's a slow process and I’m constantly making mistakes and learning new things but at the end of the day I’m trying and that’s good enough for me.
